“The primary purpose of this address is the desire to encourage people to pray. In what sense to pray? To pray not in the way that we suggest to God our solutions, as if we were the advisers of the Lord God. But to pray that His will be done. Thus, to hand Him our problems, and He knows best how to resolve them for us in the best way.” Thus the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Lubomyr, commented on the aim of writing the “Address of the Major Archbishop to the faithful of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, all people of good will and representatives of the civil authorities of Ukraine.”
The secondary purpose, according to Head of the UGCC, was to turn the attention of state authorities to the fact that one needs to know how to entrust much in life to the Lord, in order that He may heal it. “What has been going on for a long time is, in fact, the image of what is going on in the souls of our people, mainly those who are accountable for the general good of the whole nation. We cannot go forward, I think, not changing the main principles. Every politician has to look in his heart and consider what his values are, what the meaning of his life is. Because his acts come from this. We would like to see our leaders spiritually balanced,” explained His Beatitude Lubomyr.
On April 22 the address of the Head of the UGCC to the faithful of the Church, all people of good will, and representatives of the civil authorities of Ukraine was published. The document was written considering the political events in Ukraine during most recent historical period.
