On May 6, 2008, on the occasion of the patronal feast-day of Saint George’s Cathedral, the Most Rev. Ihor Voznyak, Archbishop of Lviv, celebrated a pontifical Divine Liturgy. With Archbishop Ihor concelebrated fathers-protopresbyters of the Lviv Archeparchy, Fr. Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Ph. D., Fr. Borys Gudziak, Ph.D., and priests of the Curia of the Lviv Archeparchy. Also present at the Liturgy were representatives of the city and regional authorities of Lviv, and parishioners and guests of Saint George’s Cathedral.
"We are glad from that in our Lviv we have a cathedral dedicated to such a mighty protector, Saint George the Great Martyr, who intercedes for the inhabitants of our city and in a spiritual way helps us to conquer evil," noted Archbishop Ihor in his sermon.
During the Liturgy Archbishop Ihor also ordained to the priesthood Fr. Bohdan Hrushevskyi, who carries out the duties of coordinator of the Student Chaplaincy of the Lviv Polytechnic National University. Talking to the newly-ordained priest, Archbishop Ihor called him not to forget that “the priesthood is important when it spiritually and justly is carried out by a devoted person; otherwise it only will serve for more strict condemnation in eternity. I wish you, brother-priest, an irreproachable life, justice, the protection of the Mother of God, and the intercession of holy protectors.”
At the conclusion of the Liturgy Archishop Ihor performed the rite of blessing water in front of Saint George’s Cathedral and sprinkled all present with it. Then guests and the personnel of the Curia of the Lviv Archeparchy were invited to a festive dinner.
