The UGCC solemnly and with prayer celebrated the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’
 "Today we met here not to celebrate a very important historical occasion in the life of our nation. We are gathered together to fortify our faith, in order to experience once again this event which happened 1020 years ago . Because what happened then has its consequences for us today." On July 27, 2008, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv (metro station Livoberezhna, Mykil’sko-Slobids’ka St., 5), a celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’-Ukraine will take place. The celebration will begin at 9:00 with a pontifical Divine Liturgy at which His Beatitude Lubomyr will preside.
