Dearly Beloved in Christ!

With divine permission a great misfortune has visited some of our regions: the rivers burst their banks and did very much harm, and even caused the death of a few dozen people. Also very huge, although the final calculation has not even yet been done, is the financial harm, about which the media reports in detail. With all our heart we express our sincere regret and compassion to the families of the victims...

The UGCC solemnly and with prayer celebrated the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’

"Today we met here not to celebrate a very important historical occasion in the life of our nation. We are gathered together to fortify our faith, in order to experience once again this event which happened 1020 years ago . Because what happened then has its consequences for us today." So His Beatitude Lubomyr said in a sermon (part of which can be heard in the Ukrainian language at: http://www.ugcc.org.ua/audio/xreshennya.mp3 ) during a pontifical Divine Liturgy which was celebrated in Kyiv on July 27 on the occasion of the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’. A solemn service in which took part bishops of the UGCC, numerous priests, and more than 3000 laity from all corners of Ukraine took place on the construction site of the future Patriarchal Center of the UGCC...

The success of a new bishop depends on prayer, says His Beatitude Lubomyr

«Ordination is the moment when we consider our future and ask ourselves ‘What will the new bishop be like, what good will he do?'» So His Beatitude Lubomyr, Head of the UGCC, said in his sermon at the Liturgy on the occasion of the episcopal ordination of Bishop Taras (Sen'kiv), Auxiliary Bishop of the Eparchy of Stryj. According to the words of the preacher, this depends on three factors: «First of all, [this depends] on what we will all be like. In Kyiv and all over Ukraine the UGCC will celebrate the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’

On July 27, 2008, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv (metro station Livoberezhna, Mykil’sko-Slobids’ka St., 5), a celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’-Ukraine will take place. The celebration will begin at 9:00 with a pontifical Divine Liturgy at which His Beatitude Lubomyr will preside. It is expected that bishops of the UGCC from Ukraine, numerous priests and lay people from various regions of our country, and guests from abroad will take part in the Liturgy. >>>

110,000 pilgrims took part in a pilgrimage to Zarvanytsya

The pilgrimage to the Marian spiritual center in the village of Zarvanytsya (Ternopil' Region), which was held on July 12-13, 2008, and in which, according to estimates of workers of the MIA [Ministry of Internal Affairs] of Ukraine, approximately 110,000 pilgrims from Ukraine, Poland, Belarus and other countries took part, was the center and the culmination of the visit to Ukraine of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.
