In Kyiv and all over Ukraine the UGCC will celebrate the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’

On July 27, 2008, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv (metro station Livoberezhna, Mykil’sko-Slobids’ka St., 5), a celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’-Ukraine will take place. The celebration will begin at 9:00 with a pontifical Divine Liturgy at which His Beatitude Lubomyr will preside. It is expected that bishops of the UGCC from Ukraine, numerous priests and lay people from various regions of our country, and guests from abroad will take part in the Liturgy.

The visit of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri to Ukraine has finished

"Ukraine has a great future. It is a country rich in natural resources, but your greatest riches are people, the faithful of your Church. The meetings which I had with seminarians, monks and nuns, youth, priests, bishops, and laypeople enable me to confirm that the members of your Church are full of life, and a spirit of openness and enthusiasm is characteristic of them." So Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, said during a briefing for the mass-media at the completion of his visit to Ukraine.

July 15 was the last day of the visit of Cardinal Sandri. On that day he visited the construction site where the future Patriarchal Center of the UGCC in Kyiv is being built...

Cardinal Leonardo Sandri met with the intelligentsia

On July 14, 2008, as part of the visit to Ukraine of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, a meeting with the intelligentsia took place. The meeting took place on the premises of the Apostolic Nunciature in Kyiv. >>>

110,000 pilgrims took part in a pilgrimage to Zarvanytsya

The pilgrimage to the Marian spiritual center in the village of Zarvanytsya (Ternopil' Region), which was held on July 12-13, 2008, and in which, according to estimates of workers of the MIA [Ministry of Internal Affairs] of Ukraine, approximately 110,000 pilgrims from Ukraine, Poland, Belarus and other countries took part, was the center and the culmination of the visit to Ukraine of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. Together with the honored guest, participants of the all-Ukrainian pilgrimage to the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Zarvanytsya were His Beatitude Lubomyr, Head of the UGCC, bishops, members of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric, bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine... >>>

The second day of the visit to Ukraine of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, started with a visit to the Lviv seminary, where he met with rectors, teachers and seminarians of five seminaries of the UGCC in Ukraine. At the beginning Cardinal Sandri examined the building of UCU’s Theology Department and the premises of the seminary. And then a conference began. >>>

A cross was blessed on the construction site for a UGCC church in Kirovohrad

On July 6, 2007, in Kirovohrad, a cross was blessed on the site where in the near future the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist will be built, the first UGCC church in the region. The blessing was done by His Beatitude Lubomyr, Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych. A pontifical Divine Liturgy, celebrated by Bishop Bohdan (Dzyurakh), Auxiliary Bishop of the Arhceparchy of Kyiv, Bishop Vasyl’ (Ivasyuk), Exarch of Odesa and Crimea, and 9 priests preceded this. >>>

The Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches will visit Ukraine

On July 10-15 the Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, will be in Ukraine. The invitation to visit our country was personally given to Cardinal Sandri during the visit of the Greek-Catholic bishops from Ukraine to the Vatican as part of the «Ad limina Apostolorum,» which was held on January 28-February 2 of this year. >>>
